Celebrating a SOLID Leader, Mentor, and Friend
A year ago, SOLID lost an inspirational leader, mentor, and friend: Dan Abitol, Senior Vice President of Operations. SOLID celebrates Dan’s life, along with the CoreNet Carolina Chapter, this summer, at the first annual “Dan Abitol Memorial Golf Classic.” It will take place on August 31, 2021 at Pinehurst Country Club. There are additional opportunities to honor Dan’s good deeds through his memorial fund.
Dan was a man who was an inspiration to others and is deeply missed by the SOLID family. Dan lived a life that epitomized SOLID’s core values: he was Honest, Caring, Expert, Creative and Great. It is hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember. Dan left behind a trail of wonderful memories.
CoreNet to Host Dan Abitol Memorial Golf Classic
To commemorate Dan’s life, SOLID is sponsoring the Dan Abitol Memorial Golf Classic, August 31, 2021, at the Pinehurst Country Club. The event will be held in conjunction with CoreNet Global Carolinas Chapter Tech Symposium.
Charitable contributions from the Golf Classic will benefit the American Heart Association and the Dan Abitol Memorial Fund for Zab’s Place and Friendship Circle.
The Dan Abitol Award of Excellence
Another way SOLID is honoring Dan’s life is through the newly established Dan Abitol Award of Operational Excellence. Recipients of the award exemplify operational excellence and embody SOLID’s core values. CEO Mike Crippen presented the first award in December 2020 to operational leaders who worked with Dan: Sid Harriss, Trish Irving, Erin DeVoe, Rob Neal, and Brandon Tenney.
The award is made of granite to signify strength and beauty. It also recognizes Dan as a cornerstone of the SOLID foundation. The plaque on the award symbolizes Dan’s spirit and ideals. It features an emblem depicting mountains rising from the water and a quote from Henry David Thoreau:
Remembering Dan Abitol
A memorial fund in honor of Dan was established to benefit two organizations that he had strong connections with, Friendship Circle and Zab’s Place. Through these organizations, he created a community dedicated to helping individuals with special needs harness their special talents and foster genuine friendships.
Some people bring a light so great to those around them that the light remains even after they have gone. Dan was one such person. His memory lives on in the minds and hearts of the SOLID family.
