Tips on Protecting Your Facility Floors this Winter.

Monday, November 30, 2015

While most everyone can agree that there are plenty of great things to look forward to during the holiday season, it’s all-too-common knowledge that the festive time of year also naturally brings with it a host of weather-related obstacles and difficulties. As anyone who has spent significant time living in cold weather knows well, though, being considerately prepared makes all the difference between suffering the winter season and enjoying its unique beauty in comfort. With the ice, snow, and salt beginning to sneak in underfoot, and often thanks to an increasing parade of visitors, we think it’s a perfect time to relay some helpful tips to help get the game in order for keeping facility floors safe and looking good through the best and worst of what winter has to offer.

To start, it’s always important to note that the best facility cleaning policy for sensitive floors is prevention. Rather than dealing with problems as they emerge, preventing contact with damaging winter elements is obviously key in making maintenance a simple consideration. Firstly, and not surprisingly, the old standard of keeping some strategically placed floor mats in place still goes a long way. The combination of a tough, absorbent outdoor mat, which is great for knocking loose some of the most coarse buildup, with a finer and more décor-appropriate indoor drying mat can still work wonders. In addition, however, many floor professionals also recommend keeping rags or towels handy near entranceways to catch the last of the puddles that often appear when ice and snow melt off of shoes and clothing. In the long run, it’s always easier to deal with the little details with some foresight than to deal with the surprising results of any amount of seemingly inconsequential standing water.

When indoor traffic becomes a serious consideration in the winter months, particularly in larger spaces like offices, there are also many accommodating options available for floor runners and other protective substrates, many of which are perfectly capable of providing a satisfying level of personal aesthetic. If basic, bulky plastic runners are the only image you have in mind when considering necessary protection for sensitive floors, it’s definitely time to explore some of the many other options available these days. Providing added safety as well as protection, it’s definitely an option worth considering for problem areas.

In the case that some damage has taken place, the options for restoration may also surprise you in comparison to replacing floors outright, and may be simpler and more in reach than expected. Towels and fans can also go a long way in slowing that damage until a professional can provide some more detailed attention. Today, SOLID remains at the ready to help you to solve all of your flooring needs, from basic maintenance to major restoration, and all with a dedication to sustainability and leading customer service.
