Terrazzo is the original recycled flooring. This process has been around for centuries, originating from Italian craftsmen who learned to mix marble scraps and waste material from other projects to make new floors. Today’s terrazzo floors have more color possibilities, a greater selection of aggregates, and more design potential than ever before with bold, versatile colors and a classic, sophisticated style.
But along with their beauty, they also have a long history of durability in high-traffic areas. SOLID’s craftsmen can help to protect them and extend their usefulness, but even nature’s most durable materials aren’t impervious to damage. If your terrazzo requires restoration, our craftsmen can make near-invisible repairs, preserving the aesthetic value of your investment. Our state-of-the-art products and superior methods ensure a deeper clean and a shinier shine than you’ll find anywhere else on the market, and our craftsmen have an unparalleled concern for artistry when it comes to restoring damaged stone. Others may offer quick fixes, but only SOLID can provide the high degree of skill necessary for long-term care of terrazzo finishes.
Both cement and epoxy matrix floor systems are comprised of zero volatile organic compound (VOC) materials. Terrazzo has little or no off-gassing over the life of the cured floor, and the non-porous, cleanable terrazzo finish does not support microbial growth, nor does it allow moisture to accumulate. This helps maintain a mold-free environment, and as a result, greatly improves indoor air quality.
Care: Terrazzo will sustain scratches and other damage over time, but with more than 30 years of experience, SOLID can help them maintain their original luster for longer. Terrazzo can be brought to a natural polish without the use of floor finish. The grinding process reveals a floor that is 30-percent cement or epoxy and 70-percent aggregate, giving it a characteristic speckled appearance. It is customary for the epoxy or cement to be color tinted as well. If our craftsmen care for your stone, you may never need to undertake an expensive restoration.
Restoration: When you do require significant restoration work, SOLID’s craftsmen can help, too. If you thought your stone was ruined, think again. Our highly skilled artisans relish the opportunity to salvage the unsalvageable. They’re up for the challenge, and can customize their services to just about any space. Here’s a look at a few of their preferred techniques:
Diamond Honing | Diamond abrasives smooth stone in high-traffic areas.
Diamond & Powder Polishing | Super-fine abrasive powders and diamond discs restore high-reflective finishes to worn surfaces.
Enhancer | Brings out the beautiful, natural colors in stone surfaces.
Impregnators and Sealers | Protects porous stone from permanent stains while allowing it to breathe.
